Rhode Island Energy pays a fixed rate for the solar power your system produces, for 15 or 20 years. It is for systems up to 25 kW DC, and you apply before the system is built or running.

Program year April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027: 31.55 cents per kWh for 1 to 15 kW (15 years); 28.65 cents per kWh for 15 to 25 kW (20 years).

Net metering

Home solar earns a net metering credit for production up to what you use in a billing period. Production above that earns a smaller credit, which Rhode Island Energy says is based on the wholesale price for usage on and after May 12, 2026.
