Solar & batteries

Solar and batteries for Northeast homes.

Rooftop and ground-mount solar, home batteries and panel upgrades, designed and installed by our own crews.

Why homeowners in the Northeast go solar

Electric rates

Northeast electric rates are high, and solar lets you make part of that power yourself.

Control

Utility rates change. Your system's output doesn't depend on them.

Backup

Add a battery and the lights stay on when storms take the grid down.

State programs

Every state we work in has its own solar and battery programs. We walk you through the ones your home qualifies for.

What we install

Rooftop solar

Most of our systems go on the roof. Our surveyor checks the roof, the attic, the shade and your electrical panel in person. Then our designers lay out the panels to fit your roof and your electric use.

Ground mounts

No good roof? If you have the yard space, the panels can go on a ground mount, faced and tilted for the best sun.

Home batteries

A battery stores solar power for later. When the grid goes down, it keeps the circuits you choose running: the fridge, the well pump, lights and outlets. In some states, utilities also pay battery owners to share stored power on the hottest summer afternoons. We install more than one battery model and help you pick the right size.

Electrical panel upgrades

Older homes sometimes have a main panel that can't safely take solar. Our surveyor checks yours on the first visit. If it needs an upgrade, we include it in the job, so you don't hire a second contractor.

Remove and reinstall for re-roofing

Need a new roof down the road? We take the panels off and put them back when the roofer is done, for systems we installed and many we didn't. Request it through our service team and they'll schedule it around your roofer.

Service and monitoring

Monitoring setup and reconnection and repairs, for our systems and many installed by other companies. Every installation carries our 10-year workmanship warranty.

Incentives and programs

Solar and battery programs differ from state to state and utility to utility, and they change often. Depending on where you live, they can include payments for the power your system makes, credits on your bill, and battery programs.

We handle the rebate and SREC paperwork, and your quote shows the programs we expect your home to qualify for.

Ways to pay

CashYou own the system outright, and the savings are yours.
Solar loanYou own the system and pay it off over time.
Lease or PPAA third party owns the system. You pay a monthly amount or a rate for the power it makes. Many have no money down.

Questions homeowners ask us

How old can my roof be?

If your roof will need replacing in the next few years, it usually makes sense to do it before solar goes on. Our surveyor looks at the roof in person and tells you what we see. If you re-roof later, we can remove and reinstall the panels.

What about shade from trees?

Shade lowers how much power panels make. On the survey we measure the shade, and our designers place panels where the sun is best. If the roof doesn't work, a ground mount might.

Do panels work in snow?

Panels make little or no power while they're covered. They're dark and tilted, so snow usually slides off sooner than from the rest of the roof. Please don't climb up or scrape the panels.

What happens on a cloudy day?

Panels still produce, just less. Across a year, the long sunny days make up for the gray ones.

What happens during a power outage?

Solar without a battery shuts off when the grid goes down, a safety rule that protects utility line workers. With a battery, the circuits you choose keep running, and the panels recharge the battery during the day.

What if I sell my house?

If you own the system, it goes with the house. A lease or PPA can usually be transferred to the buyer; your contract explains how. Call us and we'll help with what the buyer or their lender needs.

Do I need permits or HOA approval?

Every job needs a permit from your town, and Skyline files it, along with the utility paperwork. If you have a homeowners association, we'll help you with the HOA application too.

How long does the site survey take?

About 90 minutes. The surveyor looks at the roof, the attic and your electrical panel and takes the measurements our designers need.

Is there a warranty?

Every installation carries our 10-year workmanship warranty.

Who do I call for service?

Skyline. Use Request Service to find your system by address and tell us what's wrong, or call 732-354-3111. We service systems other companies installed too; those visits carry a trip fee, and we'll tell you the cost before we schedule.
