Alternative Energy Credits under the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards (AEPS) Act

A qualified solar system earns one credit for each 1,000 kWh it produces, and the owner can sell or trade those credits. You apply through the PUC's credit administrator and register the system in PJM-GATS, or use an aggregator.

Net metering

Utilities must credit home systems up to 50 kW at the full retail rate, up to what you use, and extra generation carries forward month to month. Excess left on your May bill is paid at the Price to Compare, and if you switch to a competitive supplier, that supplier does not have to offer net metering.
