SMART 3.0 (Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target)
A state program that pays owners of solar systems for the power they produce. It is for customers of National Grid, Eversource or Unitil, not municipal light plant towns, and your contractor applies for you.
For systems 25 kW or smaller in Program Year 2026: $0.03 per kWh base rate, or $0.06 per kWh for qualified low-income customers. The rate stays fixed once you qualify, for up to 20 years.
Date of this figure: Published June 10, 2026.
Please confirm the current status and amount with the program before relying on this one.

ConnectedSolutions (Mass Save)
Your home battery sends power to the grid during summer peak events, and you earn a payment based on how much it delivers. It is for Cape Light Compact, Eversource and National Grid customers, with or without solar.
$275 per kW of the battery's average contribution during summer events (June 1 to September 30). Batteries may also qualify for up to $25,000 in 0% HEAT loan financing.

Net metering
Customers of Eversource, National Grid or Unitil can net meter. Extra solar production in a month is credited to your bill and carries forward to later bills.
